Explore More Illinois Welcomes The 1843 Durant-Peterson House Museum

Historic brick and wood house surrounded by trees, with the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley logo in the corner.

Explore More Illinois, RAILS’ online cultural and recreational pass program for Illinois libraries, welcomes its newest attraction, The 1843 Durant-Peterson House Museum in St. Charles!

The Durant-Peterson House Museum is the original homestead of Bryant and Jerusha Durant, built in 1843. Your visit becomes a step back in time to the 19th century with first-hand experiences of life as a pioneer on the Illinois prairie! Smell savory dishes sizzling over the hearth. Hear the laughter of children playing games in the parlor. Taste heirloom recipes from the Durant and Peterson families’ cookbooks. A tour through the house offers a unique historical experience with adult and junior docents in period dress and many opportunities for hands-on interaction.

The Durant-Peterson House Museum is offering Free Admission.
