Two Reviews of The Immortal Rules

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

This novel is the first book in the author's new series Blood of Eden, and it just came out today. A few of us were lucky enough to receive advance copies and read the book already. Here are two of our reviews:

The Young Adult Librarian's Review previously posted on Goodreads.com:

I received an advance copy of this book from Media Masters Publicity. All opinions in this review are my own.

After the glut of vampire novels a few years ago, I was not sure how I would feel about Julie Kagawa's new series. I was quite surprised how much I liked it.

Humans live in vampire cities where they are used as blood donors. Some humans choose not to register, and they live on the fringes. Rabids hunt both humans and vampires.  A group of rabids attack Allison, an unregistered human, during a scavenging expedition. A vampire offers Allison the choice between dying and becoming a vampire. She chooses to change. Eventually, she meets up with a group of humans on their way to Eden. They do not know she is a vampire, and she must fight her cravings especially around Zeke, a teenage boy for whom she develops feelings.

Allison is a complex character with her own strengths. She can take care of herself and those around her even as she is fighting her vampire nature.  The supporting characters are also well-developed as they each fight their own ideas and prejudices.

Uzma F.'s Review:

The first thing that amazed me about Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa was the captivatingly eerie cover compelling me to read the book, the second was Allison Sekemoto. Allison is a creature to behold; she is amazing as a human and as a vampire. She is strong, compassionate, and has her own moral code. Immortal Rules is amazing in its concept, it's eloquently written and I couldn't get enough of it! It's a different kind of vampire story all together; one about the true meaning of survival, love, compassion and the strength to fight against all odds.
