Library of Congress Talking Book and Braille Lending Service
Talking Books or Braille materials are available to residents who are unable to read conventional print materials because of visual or physical impairments. This service is offered in cooperation with the Library of Congress, which provides a free cassette player and other necessary equipment to hear the recording. Current fiction and nonfiction titles are available. Additional information can be obtained at the Adult Services Desk.
Closed-caption videos
These are videorecordings that have been enhanced for the hearing impaired. Patrons need their own special equipment to access the closed-caption feature on these videocassettes. Juvenile and adult fiction and nonfiction titles are available.
Large Print books
The library has a Large Print collection featuring romances, mysteries, thrillers, westerns, inspirational, and nonfiction titles.
Literacy Collection
The Library owns a good collection of materials for new adult readers and English as a second language (ESL). It consists of books, videos, and audio books in both fiction and nonfiction areas of interest. Some materials in this collection have been purchased through a grant from the Illinois Secretary of State.
Jobs and Careers
These circulating and reference books enable job hunters seeking data on local, regional, and national job markets as well as students who are researching careers to find up-to-date information in a central location.
